"s" in Arial font not scaling properly in PDFs

See for example [link=http://www.daverado.mvps.org/temp.pdf]http://www.daverado.mvps.org/temp.pdf[/link]

Notice how the letter "s" is displayed incorrectly in the words "Sent" and "Subject". If you set the view to 100% it displays correctly, but not when scaled - and yet Arial is a standard Truetype font and is scalable in all applications I know other than Acrobat. Is there something I can change in my Distiller or PDF driver or other settings in order to make the Arial font in PDFs I create genuinely scalable, so that it displays correctly at all magnifications, as a Truetype font would be expected to do?

Dave,

I opened the PDF you posted and the type looks fine in my version of Acrobat 8.1. Scaling is the same for the "s" as well as the other type.

I think you must be running at a higher resolution than 1024 then. Here are screen capture of what I see when opening that file at 1024 x 768:

When viewed in Acrobat 8:

When viewed in Firefox 2 with the Acrobat 8 plugin:

When viewed in IE7 with the Acrobat 8 plugin:
http://www.daverado.mvps.org/IECptr.gif

In all three cases the letter "S" in the words "Sent" and "Subject" is distorted.

Are you seeing something different from what is in these screen captures? If so and if you are running at 1024 x 768, and if the bookmarks pane is visible when you open the file as it should be, please could you post a screen capture of what you see?

I have also discovered that the problem only occurs when the magnification of the PDF is set to 88% or lower: the letter "S" displays correctly at 89% magnification or higher. Because my sample PDF is set to display the Bookmarks panel on open, and the magnification on open is set to "fit width", if you are running at 1024 x 768, the PDF will open with a magnification of 83%, so the "S" in Sent or Subject is distorted.

As I say, if you see something different from what's in my screen captures when opening my file at 1024 x 768 resolution then please post a screen capture of what you see.
