Saving portions of PDF document

I have a CD with a 600+ page document on it in pdf. I would like to separate this into several smaller section. I have tried selecting the thumbnails and saving as but it will not save the selected pages, wants to save all the pages.

Got any ideas?

Something to try - after selecting some thumbnails right click for the context menu and use "extract pages".
