Scanned Image to Searchable PDF?

How do I (and what product do I need to) take a scanned document that someone else scans and sends to me and convert it so I can search the document for particular words or phrases?

Thanks.

Adobe Acrobat (Standard or Pro) can do that for you - the optical character recognition (OCR) tool can be used directly when scanning in a paper document, or run after the fact on an image file or a PDF that contains an image. The resulting document will be fully searchable.

There are many ways to do so.
You basically only need a programm that can handle PDF files and has an OCR functionality.

Acrobat is one option, others are products like ReadIris, PaperPort, OmniPage Pro etc.
