Searching for a tilde

I have a document where a tilde (~) is used as a character (not an overstrike). I need to find all the instances, but the Search function recognizes the tilde as some sort of wildcard. I've tried entering two tildes in succession and also with quote marks around the tilde, without luck. How do I find all instances of these tildes?

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 9.4, Windows

I just created a new PDF file (from Word) with tildas in it, and the search function in Acrobat Pro 9.4 found it just fine. I think there's probably more at hand here than what you think. Probably an encoding issue.
If you could share your file on Acrobat.com or one of the free upload sites we could have a look for ourselves.

I should have been more precise. It's not actually the ~ sign that you get when you type the (shifted) symbol left of the "1" on a 101 keyboard. I mistakenly put that one in my post. It's actually ASCII Alt+0152. ˜ It's called "small tilde" on the Word chart.

That makes more sense...
Yes, I see what you mean. I have no solution for you, I'm afraid, but it is possible to find it with a script...
