Speed Creating PDF from Word vs WordPerfect. Word takes way longer

I have a 47 page document and I have created it in Word Perfect and Word. I want to use Word but it takes about 2 minutes to print this to a PDF Document. Word Perfect takes just seconds and the PDF file size is much larger in word. Is there a reason for this and is there a solution. I would appreciate any help.

Acrobat Pro 9.3.1, Windows

There could be differences in your conversion settings between the 2 programs that could inlcude the quality of the processed images and compression of the images, embedding the fonts, adding interactive features like links, bookmarks, and tagging. You can use the PDF Optimize to 'audit' the PDFs and see the differences in the size of the objects witnin the PDFs.

for a "large" file use Acrobat's 'reduce file size' command (on document menu)

word perfect has a built-in PDF command: 'publish to PDF' (on file menu)
