Hi,

This is my first visit here, so I apologise if this is in the wrong board. I have searched for this topic on the boards and whilst their is a similar question, it was not solved.

I have to send a pdf document to a client who must print it out and manually sign it in various places (electronic signing is not possible we need a signature on the printed paper). After looking at the options I explored with the "Stamp" function. I have saved the document with the "stamp" "Sign Here", however, I cannot stop it from printing this out.

In essence I want to be able to save the pdf file with the "sign here" stamp on the document but when its printed out it doesnt have this it on the printed page. I'm really not bothered if its a stamp or not, I just need a solution that shows where the client signs, but does not get printed up when they sign.It just seems obvious to use the one provided if i can get it to work the way I want it to.

Many thanks

In the print dialog, instead of choosing to print "Document and Markups" choose "Document". This won't print any of the stamps or comments.

Thanks for taking the time to answer the question.

It appears that this solution requires the client to choose this option in the print dialogue box. Is there a way that i can save the file, so that when the client prints out the page it doesnt print the stamp?. I think we all know that in business, the client will print out the page wuith the stamp visible and therefore make the agreement unenforceable.

If not, is there another slution that doesnt require the recepient to make these decisions?

Thanks

The document cannot pre-configure those printing preferences, nor can you set a stamp to be "visible but not printable" as you can with a form field or button. You could use watermarks (which can be set to appear only on screen), though you can't stamp directly onto a watermark, you'd need to convert the stamp graphic into a PDF file first.

It is possible to set a stamp as printable or not printable, but for a stamp to print, the end user controls if the document prints a printable stamp or not. This can even be changed by the use of JavaScript, so with some programing you could allow the printing of the stamp. There is also a noView property, so the stamp will not appear when viewing he PDF.

I am not sure what will happen if the user creates a summary of notes.

The print property of the stamp was introduced in version 5.

There's intentionally no UI access to this property, and to change it in Reader requires extended rights. Because there's no way outside the Acrobat console for a user to tell why the annot isn't appearing, it's not the sort of thing you should do unless absolutely necessary, lest you enjoy fielding confused phone calls.

If .print=false, on comment summary reports the annots are omitted from the page printouts but the index numbers are still added, and the annot details will be listed on the summary table. They will flatten according to their screen view settings, but they will not appear on PDF Portfolio cards and preview panes (the idea of a non-printing annot wasn't considered when designing the card renderer).

I'm late on jumping back in here, but another option might be to make a PDF out of the Sign Here graphic, then make this a form button that is set to visible but not printable (instead of using the stamp tool).
