I can't open any pdf's and I consistently get the error message AR has encountered a problem. I am running 8.1 with xp. Thank you for your assistance on this.

BTW, before I reinstalled my operating system, I had no problems, but something is very wrong.

If your running both Acrobat and Reader on the same machine, you must associate the .pdf extension to one or the other.

Also try running the Repair installation from the Control panel for both Acrobat and Reader. Make sure you've installed all updates, enabled all Adobe add-on in Internet Explorer, and run a disk clean-up to remove the temp stored error messages.

I am sorry, I don't have acrobat running on my computer. So it is just a reader problem. I am almost certain that it is a setting that is not correct with windows, but I haven't got a clue where to go with that intuition.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Reader at least two times since I reinstalled the operating system.

Adobe Reader 8 is enabled.

I don't see any Repair anything from any file related to adobe or reader. I don't know what to do....thanks again...
