I am brand new to Adobe so please bear with me! I have an access application that creates some word documents and my users would like these documents converted to PDF format 'automatically'. I have been reading about Distiller as I would like to use the 'file watcher' to iniate the conversion. I copied one of my word docs and gave it a '.ps' extension. I opened Distiller, went to 'File>Open' and grabbed the file I just created. I have tried many word docs and they all give me errors in the log which I do not understand. The errors say 'flushing-end of job' 'post script error'. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Is says you can queue 'post script' files and monitor them. Maybe I am confused on what a post script file is. HELP!!
Word docs can't be saved as .ps files. As you discovered, the format doesn't recognize the content, resulting in a post script error.
But not to worry -- instead of using the .ps file format, you can use a Word-friendly .prn format, which can then be stored in your watched folder.
In Word, choose File > Print, and click the Print to file checkbox at the upper right of the Print dialog box. Click Print, and save the file in your watched folder.donna.
