Is there a way with Acrobat 7/8 to convert standard PDFs to PDF/A via Acrobat? I've found several sets of instructions but most are for later versions of Acrobat.

Acrobat Pro 7.07 was the first to support PDF/A creation, but you're really supposed to go directly to PDF/A from native (Word, scan, etc.) - converting an existing PDF into PDF/A is almost always going to fail because of missing structure within the file.
