Cant delete pages - ver 9

I am just getting familiar with ver 9 extended. I am trying to delete several pages from a PDF/A document. There is no security. The menu document/delete selection is grayed out. Right click on pages to view thumbnails does not have a delete selection (nor extraction, etc as it does in ver 8 (is that a new change?). It only has print, insert, enlarge, reduce ). I have run the repair utility but no change. Opening the document on another machine with 8 pro does work with right click on the thumbnails.

Suggestions? Thank you.

The PDF/A format does not allow you to delete/remove pages. Under Edit > Preferences > General panel set "PDF/A View Mode" to Never to remove the pages.

Hi,
In Acorbat 9 when a word 2007 document is converted to pdf , delete pages, replace pages options are all grayed out in PDF/A view mode.

Without PDF/A view the options are selectable.

Is it something by design or if there is any setting that can change the phenomenon, please let me know.

Thanks,
Raja

In the view mode, you can have the thumbnail of each page. Then you can select the page and delete what you want. It works well on my pro 9. Hope helps.

I am not familar with editing in acrobat, so I use a pdf to word to convert to word and then edit in word. It is free now. http://www.anypdftools.com/pdf-to-word.php#153

Humiliating ignorance here, but I have not had any problems with editing PDFs before until downloading this-- Can someone tell me why and how to make it Go AWAY! In hurry- can't delete pages- don't know enough lingo! Dont know how to change to a "view mode". Previously I simply right clicked -- or I could bring all pages up on Left column and click the options button to delete several at a time, rearrange etc. The advice to change Preferences doesn't work (There is not even that option under "General", but I tried it under other sections. ) HELP!

If you are the author of your PDFs then you can uncheck the PDF/A setting during the creation process -- especially if it is not your intention to create archive PDFs. If you create your PDFs using the PDFMaker macro (i.e., from Word) go to the Adobe PDF menu and select "Change Conversion Settings". Under the Settings tab make sure "Create PDF/A-1a:2005 compliant file" is unchecked.

Acrobat 9 Pro
I'm now having the same problem. Can't delege a page. Get message "bad parameter" for one page. If I insert a page from another file, I can delete that one but not the one in the document I want to.

I have created a pdf fill in book (300pgs) with lots of fill in. I can insert, but can't extract, replace, or delete a page now. What happened. I tried everything listed above without success. Help.

One thing I can't find is "If you create your PDFs using the PDFMaker macro (i.e., from Word) go to the Adobe PDF menu and select "Change Conversion Settings". Under the Settings tab make sure "Create PDF/A-1a:2005 compliant file" is unchecked."

What does these mean? I created the original pdf from Word 2007. Since then I have added all the fill-ins; and I don't want to start over in Word.

What is odd about the current pdf is...after I worked on it, cleaning up fields, using text and object editor; deleting and insert two budget tables; and finished it out, I did a save as to create an excerpt for promoting the book. And that's the one I am working in right now. Did something happen when I did my save as?

I have run into problems with past versions of Acrobat (version 7 & 8 pro) that would not let you delete pages until all of the thumbnails have loaded in the side panel. However, I am using version 9 pro extended and now no matter what I do I cannot delete pages. I have tried extracting (choosing to delete after extraction), right clicking and choosing delete, etc. to no avail. I have to create a new document and move all the pages I don't want to delete over to it. That is the only way I can get to work and it SUCKS!!! I have 3GB ram and a very strong video card on a Core 2 duo processor system, so Adobe better figure out a way to write software that works. The error I get is that the file is in use and cannot be deleted. I am not on a network, just trying to manipulate a local file.

That's exactly what I am doing now. and with a 300pg. doc, it's a pain in the you know what! Don't understand with Acrobat Pro 9 that at some point early in the game I was able to do everything. but can't now that I'm all done with the document.

I agree, Adobe, we send you a very personal plea. Do something!!!!

Do you know if you're working on a PDF/A file? In Acrobat 9.2, you'll see a document message bar at the top of your document if this is the case.

Have you tried Examining your document? Have you seen any issues with ICC color profiles?

At top of doc, there's no PDF/A there, just extension .pdf.

Your next question goes beyond my abilities at this point. Yet, I did check out a couple things I did recently on one image. Here it is:

When originally converted to pdf from Word 2007 and saved for fast web viewing, one image was missing on two pages (p.186, p.177). I inserted the image using Acrobat "place image" on two pages. The image was a jpeg (42KB clip art, 72res, color space sRGB). the properties were XObject: Image; Color: ICCBasedDeviceRGB for both (embed profile was not checked).

On p.280, the image might have been missing also. Can't remember. But the same image (from Word housed in text box) was converted within pdf as a "Stamp Properties, color red, General/review/migration history all checked locked. This change was the most recent. Is this where there might be the problem? the Word doc shows the image on top of a text box. Don't know why it did that in Word.

Along with the inability to delete pages, here's something that came with it in the process:

Whenever I do a "save", it goes thru the motions to remove unused objects, updating any fonts when I used text editor to change out words and pdf conversion errors in the text, etc. But then a window comes up with "can't save this document...problem reading this document (14)." But when I do a "save as" and overwrite, it goes thru the motions of removing unused docs, fast web viewing, etc. and successfully saves it. Occasionally when it does work when I click "save", the file size jumps from 7mb to 9 or 10mb. Then I do a "save as", and it brings it back down to just under 7mb. Odd.

So, that's the lay of the land here. Thanks for any help you can provide.

There was another member with a somewhat similar problem at the bottom of the following post titled "The document could not be saved. Bad parameter.". They resolved the issue by changing out the images in Word and not Acrobat.

Have you tried performing the Document > Examine Document ... command to see if anything comes up?

I deleted the odd image and did a "place image" there as a jpeg. and now I can do "save." But I still can't delete pages. Here's the results of Examine Document:
19 items Metadata - under this is:
205 Hidden text (dots, lines, a few letters; how can I delete them?)
18 Images
2470 Form fields
1 bookmarks
1 Deleted & cropped content
1 Document (table of contents)

This list is also listed again under their own folders after Metadata.

What do I do with this?

I tried the different suggestions listed above, but with no results. Under the Documents menu I have the options "replace, delete, split, crop, rotate, examine, add bookmark, and attach file" greyed out. I have Pro version 9, but when I receive the pdf documents that I must edit, they are coming from an earlier verion of Acobat Pro from anotehr person. If I create it myself, I can do all those options. I have downloaded other fillable pdf's and can also do those options.

Do I need to do something at the source first? The source has Pro version 7.2.

I tried all of the above suggestions and nothing is working. Anything else I can try?
