Copy/Paste

As part of my job I have to collect data from pdf documents generated by a government website. These documents print and view just fine, but if I try to copy/paste or save as text I just get garbage (random (seemingly) characters and small squares).

Any suggestions because at the moment I have to manually enter the data and I really don't like doing that!

You may have a font problem. Try to paste the text in a text editor and select all the pasted text. Change the font to a font installed on your system.

That was my first thought too! Unfortunately it is not the problem. Thanks for the prompt answer though!
