I am wanting to export some large Outlook mailboxes to PDF files using Acrobat X Pro. I tried exporting a 2.5 GB mailbox and after several minutes the following error message eventuall popped up:

"You have chosen to convert a very large number of email messages. Please try again with a folder or selection having fewer messages."

Can someone tell me what the maximum number of messages value is? Can it be changed?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

There is a known issue with Acrobat X where if Outlook is online with Exchange (cached Exchange Mode OFF), then the PDFMaker macro can only convert 249 mails through selection. However, PDFMaker successfully converts 10000 mails in an online folder on exchange server.

Is this the problem you're experiencing?

I am having a similar issue with a large mailbox size where I have outlook 2010 online and cached exchange ON. The mailbox has approximately 9,500 e-mail messages and it completes about 6k to 8k messages when all of a sudden outlook restarts without displaying any error messages. When I check the file location where I selected to save the archive there is nothing.

Are you using the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Outlook? Also, what point version of Acrobat X are you using?

Is this a scheduled archive or manual? Also, is there any difference if you turn Protected View off (just temporarily)?

The Protected View preference is located under Edit > Preferences > Security (Enhanced) at the top of the dialog. Here is a link to some additional information on Protected View in Acrobat 10.1.
