Excel to PDF picture location issue

Answered

I have a spreadsheet in Excel 2007 that contains a few small pictures that are located in a row next to some specific text. When I print/print preview in Excel, everything looks as it should.

When I convert it to PDF and view the file, the pictures are not in the correct location.

Has anyone experienced this before? Does anyone know know to fix this?

Thanks

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 7.0, Windows

Something I just noticed - the issue happens when I have the page setup in excel less than 100% of the normal size...

This could be related to a known issue in Excel 2007 related to print parameters. Here is a technical note that addresses the issue.

I treid what you suggesetd, but it made no difference. I have been using these programs for almost a year (performing the same procedures) and this is the first time this has happened.

Have you been using Acrobat 7 with Excel 2007 or did you recently change to Office 2007? It wasn't until Acrobat 8.1 that Office 2007 was supported.

I thought I have been using Excel 2007 with Acrobat 7 since December 2008, as that's when both were installed on my computer.

Maybe this isn't an Acrobat 7 issue, but an issue with the PDF add-in in Excel (downloaded from Microsoft).

It's more likely to do with the plug-in in Excel -- especially if you're not using Acrobat to create your PDF.

I am also experiencing similar issues with 2007 Excel conversions. When Acroat Pro 9.0 converts the file it enlarges some images, moves shapes, and changes text effects. It only appears to change the drawing tools. It does not appear to be a margin error, Acrobat reformats the Excel text box even when it is not even close to the margin edge.

I use to use Excel 2000 and Acrobat 7 Pro- always worked fine. Now headaches.

A work around that I found is to select PDF as the printer and just print the document to PDF. This is a little more combersome and time consuming than using the convert, but it does get the job done with the correct formatting.

Did you try the workaround suggested above to fix the Excel 2007 issue? The workaround is to (as taken from the technical note):

Configure the DPI settings in Excel to match the DPI settings of the PDF file.

1. In Excel 2007, click the Page Layout tab.
2. In the Page Setup group, click the Page Setup dialog box launcher.
3. In the Print quality list, click 600 dpi for standard output. Or, click 300 dpi for minimum output.
Note: The dpi settings that are available depend on the functionality of the printer that you are using.
4. Save an Excel 2007 workbook as a PDF file. To do this, click PDF in the Save As dialog box.
Note: The following two options for output are displayed:
* Standard (publishing online and printing): uses 600 dpi for output.
* Minimum size (publishing online): uses 300 dpi for output.
5. Do one of the following:
* If you clicked 600 dpi in step 3, then click Standard (publishing online and printing).
* If you clicked 300 dpi in step 3, then click Minimum size (publishing online).

There appears to be a known issue in Excel 2007 for the following:

"When a worksheet that contains a graphic and that is scaled to a level other than 100 percent is saved to the PDF or XPS file formats, the graphic is not scaled correctly in the saved file and may not be visible. The issue occurs when you use scaling functions such as Scale to Fit and Adjust to Fit. However, the issue does not occur when you use the Zoom function."

The workaround is to select a PostScript printer as the active printer.
