Hi Everybody,

First time into this Forum and my first post, so be gentle.

Scenario:

Attempted to convert a MS Word 2003 document to a PDF via all of the following:

a) From inside Acrobat 8
b) From Task Bar in MS Word
c) To Printer from print command

This applies to both pre-existing Word Documents or brand new, just created Word Document.

All of the above end up giving me the following:

Acrobat could not open "FileName" because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged ……

I have also when selecting the file, identified the file as a .doc file with no problem.

All current updates have been applied.

I also tried all of the above from inside MS Publisher 2003, all to no avail.

I pre-created this forum message inside of MS Word and tried to PDF it and that wouldn't work.

Colour me confused.

Thanks in advance for any help with this,

Cheers,

Andy McCraw

I've also had several problems converting word files to PDF. Make sure you are following these steps:
1. From word: File>print
2. In the "printer" field make sure you choose "adobe pdf"
3. Click the "print" button
4. Change the name of the file and include the .pdf extension

Or

1. From word: File>Print
2. There should be a button on the lower left corner of the window labeled "PDF" click on it and a drop-down menu will appear, choose "save as pdf"
3. Rename the file
4. Click the print button

Or

1. From word: File>Print
2. There should be a button on the lower left corner of the window labeled "PDF" click on it and a drop-down menu will appear, choose "save as postscript"
3.Open acrobat pro and create a pdf of that file (file>create pdf from file)

Hi,

I appreciate your responding to my problem. I had, and did again. try all of your suggestions, and unfortunately, to no avail.

In one instance, the box popped saying that it was creating the PDF and when I checked the details. the process bar was half way across and totally hung up.

So, rather than beat myself up any further, I ordered pdfFactory online from FinePrint and it works perfectly. Not what I really wanted, but I couldn't waste any more time on it.

It could be a problem with my system although I'm not having any such problems with any of my other Adobe apps.

Anyway, thanks again for the suggestions,

Cheers,
