How can I make one PDF page count as 2 logical pages?

I have a file booklet of photocopies where there are 2 actual pages from a book on each PDF page. For example, photocopy pages 1 and 2 are on the logical Page 1 of the document. This is a problem because I would like to renumber so that the Acrobat recognizes the actual pages. Could Acrobat be set so that Page 1 would be recognized as Page 1-2?

I would like to renumber the file so that each page counts as 2 pages throughout the document. Is there any way to do this?

I am using Acrobat Pro 8.

Thank you!

Hi --

Sure. Choose Advanced > Document Processing > Number Pages and follow the prompts in the dialog box.donna.

Donna,

Thanks for your response. But I'm not sure if you answered my question.

Imagine that you photocopy a section of a real book. On the PDF page 1, you will see two book pages (pg. 4 and pg. 5) and then on page 2, you will see book pg. 6 and p. 7 and so on and so forth.

Here's what it looks like now:

PDF PAGE 1 = BOOK PAGES 4-5
PDF PAGE 2 = BOOK PAGES 6-7
PDF PAGE 3 = BOOK PAGES 8-9
PDF PAGE 4 = BOOK PAGES 10-11 (and so on).

What I would like is that the PDF pages understand that there are 2 book pages on each page so that it renumbers correctly. Once I do that I will be able to re-number them so that the PDF corresponds to the book section.

Is there a way for each page to be understood by the program to be 2 actual pages? What I don't want to have to do is to divide and crop each page so that there is one book section page for every PDF page.

Thanks for your help!

I have been researching this same exact issue, because I am scanning in extensive number of documents in exactly that format. I have been trying to do this since version 6 and unfortunately have not found a way as of yet. If you discover a way, I am also very interested. I went ahead and posted this as a feature request on the main website. It may not be a bad idea for you to submit it as well, this way they will realize that it is a major limitation and numerous people are experiencing this problem.

the first choice would be to scan each source page twice and capture the 'page 1' portion in the first scan and the 'page 2' portion in the next scan and so on.

If you go with two page images per scan, then with adept use of bookmarks and destinations and logical page numering you can accomplish your objective.

follow this link where you can download 'test pages.pdf' (90k), an example I created to demo the above.
