How do you obtain pdfMaker.dot?

Hello,

Like many people in this forum, I have had problems with PDF conversion from MS Word 2003 to PDF (Acrobat 8.1).

I get the message: Word experienced a serious error the last time the add-in 'acrobat pdfmaker office com addin' was opened'....

One of the solutions I read about was to make sure that pdfMaker.dot is in ...Microsoft\Word\STARTUP. In my case, it is not. I've done a search of the C drive to locate the file and found that I do not have it at all. How can I get it?

Any help would be appreciated. Please keep in mind that I am a novice where troubleshooting these kinds of problems is concerned.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 8.1, Windows

Hello daka630,

Thank you for pointing me to those articles. So far, I have tried solutions 1-7 to no avail. I will provide this article to my IT rep and see if he'll proceed with solution 8.

I had a similar problem and found it was a corrupt normal.dot.

If you haven't already sorted it I hope this helps.

Thank you for your response, mcmo76. In fact, I have had problems with my Normal.dot not behaving properly. A couple of weeks ago, I deleted the existing Normal.dot and let Word regenerate a new one. For now, the PDF converter seems to be working. I say "seems" because I've tried this before and it works temporarily but then becomes corrupted again at some point. It's interesting that the problem could stem from the Normal.dot file - thanks for your helpful post!

It's possible for the problem to stem from the Normal.dot file. You might also do a search to make sure you don't have multiple copies of Normal.dot on your system.
