Need help with optimizing pdf and keeping layers

I have a bunch of pdf files with 2 layers both are viewable but only one prints. Problem is the file sizes are to big so I need to reduce them. When I try the PDF Optimizer it always merges all layers, I need both layers to exsist.

Does anybody have a solution for this?

I'm using Acrobat 7 on Mac
Thanks, Shane

Have you "Audited" the space usage to see where your large items are?

Also what options have you selected for the PDF Optimizer?

You should have at least set the 'Discard Objects' to not discard layers.

When I check "Audited" it tells me that 74% is document overhead and 18% are embedded fonts.

Options are:
Images: downsample to 150 retain exsisting
Scanned Pages: none
Fonts: Embedded
Transparence: none
Discard Objects: Alternate Images and Embedded Thumbnails are turned on
Clean Up: Remove Invalid Bookmarks and Remove Invalid Links are turned on

It's set up to Not discard layers but it still does it anyway. Document is also set up for Acrobat 6 and up.
