When I create a link to a certain page in another pdf (using custom link) it does not give the option of opening it in a new window. When the link opens, how do you then go back to the original pdf?
Thanks

This is out of Windows; but, I'm thinking it would be possible on a Mac as well.

Using the Link tool, lay the link.
In the Create Link dialog, select Custom link; then, click the Next button.
In the Link Properties dialog, open the Actions tab.
In the Add an Action, Select Action field select "Open a file" and click the Add button.
In the Select File to Open dialog, select desired target PDF file and click the Select button.
The Specify Open Preference dialog presents itself.
The choices are: Windows set by user preference; New window; Existing window.
Select New Window, click the OK button.
Back in the Link Properties dialog, click the OK button.
Close out of the Link tool.
Save As.
Test link.
File 1 PDF remains open.
File 2 PDF (target of the File 1 link) opens.
When done with File 2, close it.
File 1 is still open.

Thanks so much for answering. That works when I just need to link to a single page or a document, but if I want to go to a specific page (or paragraph) in a pdf document, these are the directions I followed after choosing the custom link option and pressing the next button:

a. Select the 'Action' tab
b. Choose 'Go to a page view' in the drop down
c. Press the add button
d. In the 'Create Go to View' pop-up, open the PDF that you want to link to and scroll to the page desired (and I can even marquee an area to be shown)
e. Press the 'Set Link' button on the pop-up window

The window that gives the choice of the new pdf opening in its own window doesn't come up.

If you have a chance to try this and see if you have any ideas, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!

on preferences (crtl+k) > category 'documents' > in 'open settings' clear tik at 'open cross-document links in same window'.
