pdf margins/page size different from preview

When I create pdf from files (excel, browser, etc) by "printing to pdf", somehow the resultant pdf has different margins/page size from what is show in print preview.
 
Specifically, I only print 8.5x11 formats and my excel page layouts are formatted as such but the resultant pdfs are 8.27x11.69 (a4?) and the margins are out of whack. Any ideas?
 
The strangest part is generating the pdf from the exact same file from another computer does not encounter this issue. (However this is not a good workaround since I need to paste values a lot of stuff before I can view that file in the other computer.)

on 'adobe PDF printing preferences' at PDF Page Size, be sure that 'letter' is selected (not 'A4')

Thanks, rbogie. It worked.

I've got to say, there must have been 5 or 6 different places where page size can be selected.

Even after getting it to work just now, in adobe pdf properies->advanced->printing defaults->adobe pdf page size, it still shows A4.Might you be aware how I can set everything to letter? Thanks.

on 'adobe PDF printing preferences' > tab 'Adobe PDF settings' set the page size to 8.5x11; click edit button, then save as 'standard'. then the default should remain at 'letter' page size.

Just tried it but it tells me "Standard.joboptions" is read-only!

Accepted Answer
on 'adobe PDF printing preferences' > tab 'Adobe PDF settings' set the page size to letter; click apply and OK. this may be all you need to do. option: you can 'save as' with a different name, such as 'standard_01', then select standard_01 at the default setting.

A while back I had to print pdfs and add crop marks on 11 X 17 for my printer to process the file. Today, I am printing 8.5 X 11 documents from MS Publisher. The Publisher file is 8.5 x 11, the printing preferences in my Adobe printer are set at 8.5 x 11 and the preview is also 8.5 x 11, but when I print, the result is rendered on 11 x 17. Can anyone help me figure out what's up?
