I have just purchased adobe acrobat and tried to convert a file from word with a background, but the background isn't showing in the pdf, what do i need to do?

There is a Word option "Print background colors and images". You must locate it (location varies some as determined by the Office version in use) and tick it. There are other "Print" options that Word has. Some that you may desire are not selected by default. So, it is good to browse through Word's myriad of configuration levels to "know" what you have. This way, you can configure Word to assure you get the output you want rather than something else.
