Printing to PDF with InDesign CS

I am getting an error message when I try to print to PDF from Adobe InDesign. The messages says "unable to find Adobe PDF resource files" and it prompts me to run the installer in repair mode. I have done this several times, but the problem is not fixed.

This is a new problem. I've been printing to PDF for years, and I never had this problem before this morning. I updated Windows XP to Service Pack 3 last week, but I don't remember if I've printed to PDF successfully since then. I think I probably have, because this is a function I normally use several times a week if not daily.

I'm using Acrobat Standard 7.0 with InDesign CS version 3.0.1 (not to be confused with CS3). As I mentioned above, my OS is Windows XP with Service Pack 3.

I want to re-install Acrobat, but I've misplaced the CDs. I'm waiting on Adobe to send me a link so I can download a new installation set. Other than that, I don't know what else to do. Does anyone have any ideas on this? I called Adobe, and they told me phone support for version 7.0 is not longer available as of last Wednesday. Figures it's just my luck, the program quits working properly one week after they discontinue support for it.

By the way, I can still print to PDF from other programs. I'm only having a problem when I print from InDesign.

Are you using the Export to PDF command in InDesign? Or, are you printing to PDF? If you're printing to PDF, make sure that you have a valid Adobe PDF setting selected (on the Print menu, select the Properties button, under the Adobe PDF Settings check the Default Settings).

I'm using Print to PDF. The export feature works OK, but "Print to PDF" creates smaller files and allows me to convert color document to black & white (which helps to make the files smaller).I'm using a saved setting that I've been using for over a year without problems. I've been over the settings again and again. I'm starting to think there is a corruption or incompatibility issue with InDesign somewhere. Since I can't locate my original disks and Adobe seems to have lost my registration records, I just sprung for the new Creativity Suite CS3. That will upgrade InDesign, Acrobat and all of the other Adobe apps I'm currently using. Hopefully, I won't have the same problem then.

If you haven't received the upgrade yet you might consider re-creating the setting to see if that is the issue. Perhaps Acrobat cannot access the setting for some reason.
Good luck with CS3!

I've tried it, and no luck. I'm also having some other minor issues with InDesign which hopefully be rectified with the upgrade. If it's not, my boss is going to be pretty pissed with blowing all that dough on the new suite. Hehe

I'm having trouble printing from InDesign to Adobe 9. This is the error message I get:

Acrobat could not open 'Midwifery Care in America.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).

To create an Adobe PDF document, go to the source application. Then print the document to Adobe PDF.

Has this PDF been emailed at all?
