Readers spread printing as single pages

I am making a pdf out of InDesign and would like it to stay in readers spread (17 x 11), but it needs to be able to print out as single, separate pages (8.5 x 11) for the end user. Is this possible?

Not exactly, but you can get there. Create an 8x11 document from InDesign and set the initial view of the document to show the pages 2-up (File: Properties: Initial View tab). That will give it an appearance similar to the 11 x 17 spreads, but the document will still be (and print to) 8.5 x 11.
