relative hyperlink conversion

Hello everyone,

I have a document that has been created in MSWord 2003. The document contains relative hyperlinks. The document will be converted to PDF and then uploaded to a website. The hyperlinks point to other documents on that website. The links must be relative because the site is controlled by user login. The login can occur on one of two web servers and the domain name is different depending on the login method.

Server 1 = ntlmloginserver.group.country
Server 2 = localloginserver.group.country

When the link is converted to pdf using acrobat 6 professional the relative link works fine. When the link is created using acrobat 8 pro the relative link does not work.

The document that is opened will have a web address that looks something like this:

http://localloginserver.group.country/appname/appname.exe/open/docID

When clicking on the relative link created by acrobat 6 pro the link you are attempting to follow simply replaces the informatoin after the /open/. When following the link created by acrobat 8 pro the link will look like this:

http://localloginserver.group.country/appname/appname.exe/open/appname/appname.exe/open/docID

Obvously, the open command will not work on the appname. I receive an error from the application stating that it can not open document 'appname'. I am opening both docs on the same computer and from the same login server so I am sure that it is not an individual settings.

Anyone know how to make acrobat 8 do the same things as acrobat 6 in relation to the conversion of a document containing relative hyperlinks?

It's possible this is related to having multiple versions of Acrobat on the same system. Check out this technical note for additional information:
