I've been trying to wrap my mind around this for the last few days trying to figure out what's going on here and I'm not entirely sure how to solve the problem or what settings might be involved.
The problem is that I need to scan documents on various systems with various scanner models and manufacturers. That in itself isn't the problem, it's actually great for doing various different job specifications. The problem comes into effect when I'm trying to scan 8.5" x 11" or 11" x17" documents. The documents, on different systems, will come out at just over or just under the specified size. This normally wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for one of our high end printers requiring exact page sizes. Unfortunately crop or resize efforts have come up with less than ideal print qualities.
There doesn't seem to be any sort of consistency in factors, however, ones that do come into effect are the version of Adobe being used (Pro/Standard 8 in various builds), the scanner, the page size, colour or b&w, manufacturer or WIA driver and often times the system/scanner will work for 8.5" x 11" but not 11" x 17" or vis versa.
When we use other applications (eg. Irfan View) and save those scanned results as PDF, they'll often come out properly but again there are times when it won't. Similiarly when you scan in the application, save as a TIFF, then use the right-click context option to convert to PDF and the page size will be off once again.
I've checked all the settings during scan, as well as tried to create custom page sizes as described by this FAQ document http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bbad46c mentioned in this thread http://www.acrobatusers.com/forums/aucbb/viewtopic.php?id=4500. I've also tried the suggestions mentioned on http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=325262 with regards to the drivers and such. Additionally I've tried to use the suggestion here http://www.acrobatusers.com/forums/aucbb/viewtopic.php?id=7389 but as mentioned previously, the results weren't as positive as I'd have hoped and it's hard to do that for 4000+ single page documents.
Technical Information:
Operating System: Windows XP Pro
Adobe Acrobat Professional & Standard 8.x (various builds)
Scanners (tested so far): Fujitsu fi-5750C, Fujitsu fi-6240, Fujitsu 5900c, Fujitsu 5220c, Cannon DR-9080c
Drivers Tested: Cannon, Fujitsu Twain, WIA
Additional Software: Some systems do have Kofax VRS installed, some do not.
I'm at a loss and would like to get some sort of idea what's going on so that my production staff doesn't have to juggle around what systems there on based on the specific requirements, or wait for someone to get off one of the machines to get a single scan in. Any assistance or direction would be greatly appreciated and if I happened to have left some information out that may be required just ask and I'll let you know.
Fujitsu scanners with Fujitsu driver= 8.53" x 11"
Fujitsu scanner with WIA driver = 8.49" x 11"
The Fujitsu fi-6240 is the only one tested that will scan 8.5" x 11" when using the WIA driver, unfortunately it doesn't do 11" x 17" so less than ideal for current projects.
