SERIOUS ACROBAT 8 PROFESSIONAL BUG

I have just posted an update on this on the Print and Prepress section of this forum but I thought this should be here as well. Aparently there is a serious bug in Acrobat 8 Professional (8.1.2) that when you add trim marks in Acrobat to your document, small shapes/paths (such as 10pt fonts) will get distorted. Following are easy steps to re-create this bug:

Steps:

1. Create a 3 x 5" (300dpi) document in Photoshop CS3
2. Create the text "Test" in say Verdana font using 10pt size font (The smaller the font the worse the distortion) in the center of the screen
3. Convert the text layer into a shape
4. Save the file as a PDF using the default settings
5. Open the file in Acrobat 8 Professional (I have 8.1.2)
6. Goto Advanced > Print Production > Add Printer Marks and check the Trim Marks box and click ok

Voila! The text will be badly distorted! Many will not notice right away that's why you should zoom in say 800% to see the distortion.

I can only imagine the amount of artwork passed to printers with this problem. After print the distortion is seen if you have good eyes.

Apparently the smaller the shape the worse the distortion. It's there and it's a nasty bug!

Please advice Adobe to create a hot fix on this; I don't think it's just my computer because I tried it on other computers with different OS...

PhotoShop is not a text editor nor a page layout program. I do not use MS Word Art to edit my photographic images, and do not use my photo editing programs as word processors.

I would choose my tools more carefully. Consider using InDesign.

Sorry to say this, but your reply is quite irrelevant. Bottom line it is a bug. I do not use Photoshop as a text editor nor a page layout program. I made a simple example so you can replicate the bug. The beauty of PDF is that it can present both bitmap and vector graphics and photoshop handles both quite well so these two applications should work very well together.

Acrobat has many limitations and options that can affect the display because of the type of program it is, what it is trying to do, and what operating environments it has to work in.

Adding trim marks to a document that does not have enough margin space for the addition of the trim marks maybe forcing Acrobat to create a smaller image within the media box by adding the same white space to the height and width, linearly and not proportionately which will distort the image, to allow the displaying of the trim marks. Also t your setting for the scaling of the PDF for the printer can be causing additional distortion of the image when printed.

Another source of poor image quality can arise from the dpi settings for conversion and the compression method and quality for the various images being included in the PDF.

Again, its a bug and it shouldn't be there in the first place regardless. Furthermore the steps I mentioned are the quickest to achieve the bug. Even when there is margin space for the addition of the trim marks the bug is still present. I hope Adobe will release a hot fix for this ASAP.
