acrobat converts my standard 8.5 x 11 page into a very large format PDF page. my print preview in word or excel shows a 8.5 x 11 page yet the pdf version is oversized. need to correct this in order to print the pdf file on 8.5 x 11 paper. help!

Not sure what you mean.
What measurment do you have in the print dialog?
How do you create this PDF? It sounds like your settings for the conversion into PDF are wrong.

And, even if the PDF has another measurement, you still can use the option "shrink to fit" in the print dialog, to print on the paper size specified by the printer driver.
