Default vertical split for portfolios

I received a portfolio this morning that always launches with a vertical split. I have looked through all the file options and can't get a portfolio that I create to do the same. They always open with no split and I have to go to "Window --> Split vertical".

Does anyone know how to set a file to open with a vertical split by default?

Thanks.

If you mean you're looking at a vertical row of thumbnails down the left side and a big preview pane on the right, then it's set by choosing the "grid with file preview" navigator style in the portfolio editor. It happens to be the same as the effect from running window/split vertical.

That sounds like what I need but after following the steps to add the new layouts to Acrobat, I don't have the option to choose layout. I'm running Acrobat 9.3.1 standard. Is this only available in Pro?
