Acrobat printing symbols instead of letter fonts

I have the following:

Acrobat Standard 7.0.9 instead of letter fonts prints some symbols (in all documents)

All fonts are embedded!

GSView prints this .pdf without problem

I have two printers: HP Deskjet 959c and HP LaserJet 1320nw. On both of these printers this problem occurs.

When I check the option print as image in Advanced print options the document prints fine, without it the printed version contains only symbols.

The documents are displayed on the screen properly, only the printing is a problem.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Standard 7.0.9, Windows

Without more diagnosis, I am only guessing, but it sounds like the font referred to internally by the PDF and the font on your system (or resident on the printer if the HP's host their own fonts) are conflicting.

Try turning off the preference, "use local fonts." I believe in A 7.x it is found under Page Display preference.

I am a long-time Acrobat user, an employee of Adobe Systems, and Maine native. I have created training videos for Total Training, consulted with people to help them better use Acrobat, and developed new business for Adobe as a Business Development Manager

I have the exact same problem as stated above. I'm using Adobe Acrobat Pro 8.1.2 and printing to a Canon MP530 Inkjet printer. I've already reinstalled the printer drivers and it made no difference - the problem still remains.

It's the same issues at mix2ra had:

Acrobat Pro 8.1.2 instead of letter fonts prints some symbols (in all documents)

All fonts are embedded!

When I check the option print as image in Advanced print options the document prints fine, without it the printed version contains only symbols.

The documents are displayed on the screen properly, only the printing is a problem.

Please help!

I should add that I tried the solution proposed by tplumer and it didn't work. The printer still prints symbols and not letters.

Proposed solution (tplumer): Try turning off the preference, "use local fonts." I believe in A 7.x it is found under Page Display preference.

Any other suggestions? This is maddening.

I have had the same problem on three different computers I have tried all the suggestions which don’t work. I ended up scraping adobe reader and using foxit reader.
