Acrobat Pro 8.1 Encounters a Problem after Printing

After printing documents created by WPX3 or RBase on my laptop Adobe Pro 8.1 closes and wishes to notify MS about this problem, yet if I print the same documents on another PC there are no errors. (The document does actually print correctly.) I have repaired the installation of 8.1 on my laptop but the problem persists. Any suggestions as to what else I could try to overcome this would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Check out this technical note to see if it may apply to your situation:

Ikassuba,

Thanks for you reply. I have checked Task Manager and neither of the processes mentioned in the technical document are on the list. I also noted yesterday that the problem is not limited to pdfs generated by WP etc. as I had mentioned - while some documents print without Adobe closing, most do not.

Ikassuba,

I have tried a few more things and have found that if I print the same page in two documents, which are identical except that one has password security and the other has none, Adobe only 'encounters a problem' (EAP) after printing from the secure document.

However Adobe will also EAP if I open some documents with no security, use the print command, and then cancel from the print dialog before actually starting the printing.

And just to confuse things I have a secure document I created using Adobe Pro that will print without EAP.

Finally, all of these documents print without EAP on another PC. (Both are using XPP, SP2).

Is the printing problem only occuring on your laptop? Can these same files be printed on another computer? If so, try these suggestions:

A. To print a PDF file as an image (this won't eliminate the problem)

1. Choose File > Print, and then click Advanced.
2. Select Print As Image.
3. Click OK to close the Advanced Print Setup dialog box, and then click Print.

B. Select the default print settings. Print using the default settings to determine if a variant print setting causes the problem.

To select the default print settings:

1. Choose File > Print, and then click Advanced.
2. Choose Acrobat Default from the Settings menu, and then click OK.
3. Click OK to close the dialog box, and then click Print.

Are you printing from your browser or Acrobat? Network or local printer?

lKassuba,

Thanks for your reply. Both A & B worked without EAP so it would appear that things are back to normal. I have tried one document that was causing the problem yesterday and that worked correctly. (To answer your questions I was printing from Acrobat to two network printers). Thanks very much for your help with this.Regards,

I note that after printing numerous pdfs without any problems today, the issue has reappeared. As I have been printing the same type of documents this is very hard to explain. I have tried the suggestions which 'resolved' the problem earlier today without any success.
