It's a permissions problem on the folder. Which version of Windows are you using?

We are using Windows Vista.
C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings is the folder where the .joboptions reside, Permissions on that folder are Administrators=RX system=F Users=RX.
The program is installed out of the box. Should the usersgroup have more rights?
Because the Administrators group have only RX it is not easy to change these permissions...

I'm having problems remembering exactly what to do and I'm drawing a blank. It's been a long time since I had this problem. On Windows 7 (the same file path) System has full privileges, users read only, Power Users & Admins had read/write

When Acrobat is installed, the out-of-the-box job options get placed in the ProgramData location. However, when you edit an existing job option and save it your job option is placed in association with your . The exact location for your user files may vary some what with the Window OS.
A "new" job option name defaults to the use of the (1), (2), etc - which you can give a unique name.

Correct,
personal joboptions,... you can place them in the userlocation, where full permissions are in place. ..But dragging these joboptions onto the distiller, or even use the menuItem "add adobe Pdf settings" generates the "Cannot save Adobe PDF settings file: /***.joboptions. Please contact your local administrator." error.
Only when you run the distiller elevated, you can use joboptions out of another location.
We have several distiller-users in our corporation, where we can only run programs in "authenticated Users- context".
The only solution we found in our environment, is editing the permissions on the settings folder under ProgramData, giving authenticated users modify-permissions. They are then able to place their personal joboptions in this folder. Automatically these personal joboptions then appear in the scrolldown of the 'default settings' of the distiller, making this selectable.
But...
In our company, we try to install everything 'out of the box' and that is why I posted this issue. Is there another way to add other joboptions to the distiller then these that are delivered, out of the box, with the distiller? thanks in advance

You can use the customization wizard to add the joboptions for deployment.
