'Paneled' Images from PDFs to Photoshop

There are times, too many actually, when we have to color correct images from a PDF.
On a good day, these images are one 'piece' and we can open them up directly in PS. But we are getting files from a client that we need to correct on a weekly basis. And these files have multiple layers that effect the image by breaking it up into a patchwork of panels.
Our 'workaround' has been to choose all these 'patches', being careful to NOT choose any text or artwork that may be on top of the image, and open (edit) them up (by default) in Illustrator.
In Illustrator we then 'vectorize' the file thereby creating the patches into one file.
We then save the file back into Acrobat, THEN choose the image & are able to edit the image in PS.
Is there an easier procedure without a third party plug-in or app?
Are we missing something that will make life easier?

Thanks,
Augie

Hi,

this occurs because transparencies were flattened.

Thank for the info Merlin.

UVSAR, this is done in 'Preflight'? I know of the 'optimize' way in saving a file, but have not found of a 'Preflight fixup', I'll keep looking.

BTW- the 'Save As' "optimize" might make the file have less 'panels', but does not stitch the image up completely.
BTW2- I running v10.1.1

Thanks,
Augie

Preflight is on the Print Production pane in the Tools Panel (which isn't shown by default). When it opens, click the wrench icon on the upper middle of the dialog to select the "single fixups", and type 'merge' in the search field on the right to pull out the one you want.

UVSAR, sorry I feel like I'm missing it!
I did go to 'Print Production' AND 'Preflight' previously.....I use the 'Output Preview' extensively.
In "Preflight' I see all the Conversions, Downsampling, Embedding and Flattening.....but no Merging.

AHA!
In this version this feature is in the 'Page Content' category. Let's see if this works......thanks.

Thanks,
Augie

Unfortunately this did not work.
Image is still fragmented.

Thanks,
