Quote Marks in PDF Printed Out as Dots

I often create PDFs from old WordPerfect forms, or Word docs based on WordPerfect forms. The PDF creates fine and appears perfect on screen. But when I send the PDF to someone else, while it looks fine on their screen, when they print it out, the quote marks and apostrophes in the PDF print out as one or two dots.

I believe this is a font embedding issue. I have tried to fiddle with the preferences when I create a PDF, but it's not working. Can someone give me a step by step tutorial on how to set preferences to avoid this problem?

Thanks.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Standard 8.1.2, Windows

You could try converting the text to outlines before you pass the file onto another user. The easiest way to do that is via the "flattener preview" in Acrobat since you are converting them from word and give that a try. Check the box in the window "convert all text to outlines" and adjust the rest of the settings too suit, i would recommend to keep the settings reasonably high especially the raster/ vector balance slider as you wouldn't want your text to become bit mapped if you did have any transparenct effects on the page. Hope this helps?

How do I access transparency settings? I have v. 8 Standard (running Vista), so maybe I don't have it? I looked under Advanced/Print Production and only see Distiller and Overprint Preview. Isn't the flattener and transparency setting supposed to be there too?

Sorry, didnt check your post properly and saw that you were running Acrobat Standard.

Unfortunately, this option is only on the pro version as that's mainly for print production. There isn't no options in the Distiller for transparency as Distiller ALWAYS flattens transparency AND form fields too. The options for handling transparency, such as High and Low res, are set in the output of the file when you are printing to postscript or eps. But with this method, you need to create a new transparency preset to convert text to outlines but I can't find away to create a new one. Its easy in Indesign but can't find away to create and load presets in Acrobat.

If you like, you could send me a link or the pdf and i'l have a look for you?
