Digital Signatures not working in Adobe Reader 8.0

I have 8.0 Professional and Lifecycle designer and have created a form w/a digital signature field. I have created my own digital signature and I am assuming that because I have Lifecycle this function is working. However, on machines that only have the Reader 8.0, nothing happens. I can create a new digital ID but you can not use it. I read somewhere about possibly needing Lifecycle extensions for this to work with Reader? Thanks! Felicia Johnson

Acrobat Standard 8.1.2, Windows

Hi Felicia,

You're right that you need to use LiveCycle Reader Extension technology to 'enable' Reader users to sign, but the good news is that Acrobat Professional/3D includes some of these 'Extensions' already.

To enable the form to be signed (and of course for the data to be saved locally) either a) from within LC Designer, choose [File, Distribute] or b) from within Acrobat, choose [Advanced, Enable...]

Reader users can either create a digital signature using a purchased, third-party certificate or simply generate a self-sign certificate (shown in the dialogue box when they first go to sign)

If you are part of a large organisation, or one with extensive form/signature requirements, it would be worth investigating the server based LiveCycle Reader Extension solution, as it can be used as part of a larger internal/external forms workflow.

Thanks Ian! I went in and did the distribute form and sent on to others to test, works like a charm! Thanks again!

Hi Ian,

I have the same issue as Felicia. My form is created using LiveCycle Designer and it is in .xdp format. When I click on File --> Distribute Form, I get message saying "Before you can distribute this form, you must save it as a PDF file".
How can I do this in xdp form?

Thanks.
