I have a relatively small pdf file of about 3500 pages which is bookmarked and has links. Every time I try and apply any sort of security I get "The document could not be saved. Bad parameter." message. It was created with V6.0 Pro and I have recreated it multiple times with the same error popping up each time I try and apply security. The file looks fine and the bookmarks and links all appear in order. The file can be saved/opened/used and does not appear corrupt. Any help/hints appreciated

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 6.0.6, Windows

Update, I extracted the first 10 pages and I get the same error message, so it's not related to page count.

Does the error still occur if you try the following:
Edit--> Preferences--> Security and uncheck "Verify signatures when the document is opened"

Thanks for the answer. There are no signatures in the file. I've moved to Acrobat v8 at this point and although it is slower, the problem seems to have disappeared. Now v8 has it's own issues :(

Hi I'm getting the same issue of "Insaner9". Can't insert or delete any pages; get Bad Parameter error. PDF was originally created from Acrobat Word (2007) add-in (Acrobat 9 Pro). I too, have tried many times, Examine Document, Reduce File Size, PDF Optimizer, but still get a PDF which won't allow editing. There is no security on the document. One note, when I examine document (repeatedly), I never get rid of the "Deleted hidden page and image content".

Thanks for any clues.

Can you post an example? There is a free service to post files on Acrobat.com.

Not easily, it's a really sensitive document. I was thinking of converting the orginal Word document from 2007 format (docx) to Word 97-2003 format before converting to PDF.

Hi, I think I found something! I was re-reading some of your posts, and found the mention of "Preflight" - something I haven't tried yet! So when I run preflight with Compatible with Acrobat 5 profile, I get this: Preflight Message: An error occurred while parsing a contents stream. Unable to analyze the PDF file.

So then I used the List all images Profile, and got this:
Resolution of color and gray scale images is higher than 0 pixels per inch (4 matches on 4 pages)
And for each image it said stuff about: RGB overprint: off

Interestingly, when I run preflight List all images Profile on a similar PDF that does not have any problems, I get a slightly different RGB report: RGB (ICC) overprint: off

The difference being is that the RGB is ICC based in the working PDF and apparently not so in the "Bad Parameter" PDFs.

I'm not sure if this is the problem, but the graphics originated in SAS (Statistical Analysis Software) with output in RTF format. Perhaps I'll have to see if this step can be done differently has to generate more compatible graphic objects.

The 4 images that were sourced from SAS RTF exports, where converted to jpeg and re-incorporated into the original Word document. Subsequent coversion into a PDF produced an error free PDF. No more Bad parameter error (when inserting or deleting pages), and Preflight indicates no problems.

No, my problem still insists. I have tried re-saving, re-creating everything. The document still gives me the bad parameter message. Any suggestions?
