Users with Acrobat Reader Can Not Comment on Document

Our office created a PDF of an AutoCAD drawing using Adobe Acrobat Pro 8.1.3. We sent this drawing out for review.

A customer that only had Acrobat Reader let us know that he could not comment on the drawing.

We looked at the drawing in Acrobat Pro and the security properties said "No Security". Comments were allowed, everything was allowed.

We transferred the drawing to a computer with an Acrobat Reader and the Security Properties said "No Comments Allowed".

What are we doing wrong here? How do we fix this problem?

I appreciate any help!

Thanks,
Don

Reader can only read and print unless additional rights are applied to the PDF.

You have to "Enable for Comments and Analysis in Acrobat Reader...". Look under the menu bar's "Comment" option.

The other special rights are "Forms Rights" and "Signature Rights".

Hi,

I'm having the same problem about documents rights, but where do I enable them? In Reader? I've looked through the menu bars and Preferences, and cannot find anything that allows me to enable document rights. I'm lost.

Thanks

To enable commenting, markup, analysis, etc. one of the following Acrobat releases is required.
Acrobat 7 Professional
Acrobat 3D version 7
Acrobat 8 Professional
Acrobat 3D version 8
Acrobat 9 Professional
Acroba 9 Professional Extended

No release of Adobe Reader can perform the "enable" feature.

I don't think Acrobat 9 Standard can enable commenting for Reader.

Hi try67,
I had thought the same as it is not available in the earlier releases of Standard.
However, some posts here at AUC followed by a look over of the product comparison information is why I included it.

Acrobat 9 Product comparison
"Enable users of Adobe ReaderĀ® (version 8 or later) to fill in and save PDF forms locally" is shown as available with Standard, Professional, and Extended.
However, "Enable users of Adobe Reader (version 8 or later) to digitally sign PDF documents" is not available with Acrobat 9 Standard.

I just had a look at the exact same place before posting, but what is discussed here is neither forms nor digital signatures, it's comments, which appear under "Review documents using familiar commenting tools such as sticky notes, highlighting, lines, shapes, and stamps", and Reader 9 has an icon that means "When enabled by Acrobat Pro or Acrobat Pro Extended." Not Standard, then.
