How to ensure your PDF file is accessible using Acrobat XI

Is there an easy way to make my documents work for those using assistive devices? And how can be sure I have an accessible PDF?

Follow these 6 steps to help ensure that your PDF file is Accessible using Acrobat XI Pro.

1. Open the Accessibility tools and click Full Check to display the options dialog box. Choose a variety of accessible features to check for. Click Start Checking.
2. After processing, the results display in the Accessibility Checker pane. All items that pass the check show a checkmark, those that fail show an X, and those that need manual checking show a blue ?
3. Open the Action Wizard and click Make Accessible.
4. The Make Accessible Action replaces the regular panes. You see the action divided into groups of tasks. Click Start to begin processing the document.
5. Some tasks, such as Add Document Description, open a dialog box to add content. Other tasks run automatically. Each completed task shows a check mark.
6. The Action runs the Full Check again. You see all errors are corrected, with two indicators to manually check reading order and color.
