Hi Farhana Ahmed,

You’ll need Acrobat and not just the free Reader in order to password protect a PDF file.

Thanks,
Lori

Hi ER,

The order of how you apply these things is important. First add the security and then reader extend the file.

Thanks,

Hi Maria Catalfio,

I haven’t heard any other instances of this issue. But if you feel it could be a bug please report it here:

Either i wrote my password incorrectly (twice) or there is a bug. When i try to unsecure a protected document it says the password is incorrect. It’s the only password i use. What gives?

Hi John McCombe,

I agree. I would be very beneficial to provide document security perhaps as a low cost service to address your volume. Stay tuned for updates in this area.

Thanks,
Lori

No.  And not sufficient volume user to make the cost worthwhile.

Hi John McCombe,

Adding security requires Acrobat and not just the free Reader. Are you using Acrobat?

Thanks,
Lori

There is no “Security” option in the TOOLS box on the right for my pdf.  And when I go to the Security tab in document properties, it shows “no security”, and the option to “Show details” is greyed out.  So I’m stuck and unable to put a password on the this pdf.

Hi kathy McKenzie,

Unfortunately there is no way to recover a password if you have forgotten it.
