How to edit an existing Action using Acrobat X

Donna Baker – February 6, 2012

  • In another video, you saw how to create a multi-part action.
  • Let's see how it works and make a couple of edits.
  • Open the Action Wizard tools and click Capture and Store to open the new actions description.
  • Click Next.
  • Acrobat automatically opens the file from the folder I specified and then captures the text.
  • You see the message opening to show the capture settings.
  • Click Next to run the next task, which opens the description dialog box.
  • Type identifying information such as title and author and then click OK.
  • The next step runs to add the date as a footer and then the final dialog box says the file has been saved to the original folder. Click Close.
  • Let's check it out. In the folder, you see both the original image file and the PDF file. But it would be better if I had a way to know the text was captured. We'll change that with a custom name.
  • When I open the file, you'll see a footer has been added, but it would be better if the year was part of it, too. In the Action Wizard, click Edit Actions, click the Actions Name and then click Edit.
  • The tasks are listed in the Edit Actions dialog box.
  • First we'll change the footer.
  • Click the Header and Footer options button to open the dialog box
  • Select and delete the existing code for the date
  • Click Page Number and Date Format to open the dialog box and click a month/date/year format from the Date Format drop down list.
  • Click OK and now click Insert Date and you'll see the code in the footer field and a preview at the bottom.
  • Click OK to close the dialog box.
  • The other edit I want to make is to the saved files name.
  • Click the Saved To Options button to open the dialog box.
  • Click the Add to Original File Names radio button and type a prefix for the name.
  • Click OK to close the dialog box and click Save to return to the Edit Action dialog box.
  • Now we're finished, so click Save.
  • Make changes to the Actions information or just click Save Again to finish the action.

I am very interested in learning this particular trick because I know that I’m going to make a lot of mistake while learning to operate this app, so I need to know how to correct them. So, I’m asking is it possible for me to come back and view this recording anytime that I have to?

Hi Bernice -
